Opportunity Kid's Race Across America

The pandemic has changed the way we do business, have fun and support causes closest to our hearts. Kid’s RAAM was created by Opportunity in response to the cancellation of the 2020 Race Across America (RAAM).

Fundraising events during this pandemic have unfortunately fizzled out.  We have used the RAAM event as a terrific learning experience for the children with daily Facetime interactions with the racers while learning about the 12 states our team races through and how long it takes them to go from start to finish (figuring out wind, weather, terrain and how long each segment takes), etc.  The 2020 event was scheduled to take place in June, but the event was cancelled for this year due to the pandemic.

Luckily, our racers are teaming with us to put together a children’s version of the Race Across America in our parking lot; Kid’s RAAM.  Our children will race on their tricycles through a much smaller version of the path through the 12 states.  Our Opportunist team is working with our teachers to put together a lesson plan for the children to help them prepare for the relay race.  It includes the training and nutrition plans to get in shape to race, race strategy, what you need to do to support your racers, how many crew you need, how you switch riders during the race and where you eat, rest and sleep during the race, etc.

The event is scheduled for Friday, October 30, 2020 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.   Safety and social distancing guidelines will be followed.
