Opportunity Inc. supporters Dr. Amos and Maria Dare hosted a cocktail reception to launch the early childhood education and family center’s capital campaign.
The event took place Nov. 17 at The Mar-a-Lago Club and included cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and information about the Opportunity Knocks campaign to raise $16 million.
The money will create an endowment for the organization and will build a new campus in the underserved Westgate area of West Palm Beach. The 3.7 acre campus will more than double the center’s current capacity.
“We are at capacity and we have been for the last five years,” said Opportunity Executive Director Ali Eger. “There are 300 children on our waiting list, so every day we have to turn hopeful parents away.”
Construction is expected to begin in the summer.
Since 1939, Opportunity Inc. has been providing developmental programs for the children of working families in Palm Beach County. It currently serves 96 children, ages 6 weeks to 5 years.
