It was anchors aweigh as friends and supporters of Opportunity Inc. gathered for the organization’s annual Palm Beach dinner dance.
Charting the Course took place Feb. 26 at The Breakers.
Millie Dayton and Marty Straton were chairwomen for the evening, which began with a cocktail reception featuring a signature drink, a vodka martini called the Dixie Southern. We don’t know what made it Southern, but we’re guessing it’s because the bartender sang the Ole Miss fight song as he mixed it.
OK, not really.
Volunteers wearing captain’s hats manned the silent auction and wine grab, where one lucky couple snagged a 1982 Chateau Latour Grand Vin bottle — retail about $2,100, if it can be found.
After cocktails, guests moved to the Venetian Ballroom to tables set with ship lanterns for dinner, live auction and dancing to the music of the VoxBlu band.
Fred and Gale Alger were honorary chairman and honorary chairwoman.
Event proceeds help fund the daily operations at Opportunity Early Childhood Education & Family Center, which has been providing developmental programs for the children of working families in Palm Beach County for more than 75 years.
